Collective decision making and information flow in optimized groups

The main goal of the research is to identify the main characteristics of those groups (animal, human or inanimate) which are able to make optimal collective decisions, based on some information. "Characteristic" can be many things: the communication network by which members exchange information, the way the abilities (talents/knowledge/etc.) are distributed, when and in what extend do agents rely on public knowledge or personal information, the inner structure of the group (like hierarchical self-organisation), etc.
