Dark matter theory: Status and perspectives

Abstract: Dark matter (DM) research is currently entering a golden era. There is overwhelming evidence for its abundance in the Universe, five times larger than ordinary matter, known with sub-percent precision, but unexplainable in the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics, neutrinos being too light. DM therefore provides the only clear evidence for physics beyond the SM. We will review theoretical models and detection prospects for Weakly Interacting Massive Particle DM both top-down from Supersymmetry and bottom-up with Minimal Models.
