Biography:

Biplab is an experimental particle physicist working on the LHCb experiment at CERN. He received his PhD from Carnegie Mellon U. working on partial wave analyses of photoproduction data and was awarded the 2011 Jefferson Lab thesis prize. For postdoctoral studies, he subsequently moved to the BaBar experiment at SLAC working on searches of New Physics beyond the Standard Model through precision flavor physics. At SLAC, he also heavily contributed to construction of a new Cherenkov detector, FDIRC, for next-generation collider experiments. He moved to the LHCb experiment in 2014 where he has since led efforts on several high profile analyses in rare b-hadron decays, and searches for exotic Pentaquark and Tetraquark hadrons. He has also played lead roles in construction of the present LHCb Upgrade I Silicon and Scintillating Fiber tracking detectors. Looking ahead, Biplab is very interested in future upgrades of the LHCb detector, planned over the next decade in the High-Luminosity LHC era. This comprises a new Electromagnetic Calorimeter capable of including 20-50 ps timing measurements, critical to reject combinatoral backgrounds and mitigate the high pileup conditions expected in the HL-LHC era.
