Biography:
Jenő Sólyom was born in 1940 in Kolozsvár, Hungary. He studied physics at the Roland Eötvös University in Budapest. He got his Candidate of Physical Sciences and Doctor of Physical Sciences degrees from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1970 and 1978, respectively, for his work on one-dimensional Fermi-gas models. Since 1987 he is a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He spent several years in the Laue-Langevin Institute in Grenoble as a guest scientist. He was visiting professor at the University of Illinois and at the Université de Lausanne. Until his retirement he was research professor of the Institute for Solid State Physics and Optics of the Wigner Research Centre in Budapest and professor of solid state physics at the Roland Eötvös University.
