Field Effect Control of Quantum Phases in 2D Materials
Az előadás kivonata: In recent years, there have been many breakthroughs in the electronic states of 2D materials, particularly in artificial multilayer systems, where unconventional phenomena such as superconductivity and ferromagnetism have been discovered in bi- and tri-layer systems. This talk will focus on quantum phase transitions and Ising superconductivity in 2D transition metal dichalcogenides. Using ionic gating techniques, quantum phases like superconductivity can be induced and controlled in various 2D materials, while preserving global symmetry despite the breakdown of local inversion symmetry. The field-effect control of Josephson and spin-orbit coupling mechanisms provides a suitable platform to explore exotic electronic states predicted for coupled bilayer superconducting systems with strong spin-orbit interaction. In transition metal dichalcogenides, Ising-like pairing states exhibit robust orthogonal spin protection and remarkably high upper critical fields.
This talk will address: (1) strategies to enhance carrier mobility to access the clean regime of Ising superconductivity; (2) methods to couple two Ising superconducting states via Josephson coupling to form FFLO states; and (3) approaches to control Ising pairing strength and access electronic states with broken local inversion symmetry while maintaining global inversion symmetry, all facilitated by ionic gating and field-effect control of Josephson and spin-orbit coupling.
