POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLAR ON THE CMS EXPERIMENT
The Institute of Physics at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Budapest is expanding its astro- and particle physics research program. The Department of Atomic Physics invites applications for a position of POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLAR on the CMS Experiment.
ELTE is the leading national university for subatomic physics in Hungary. The campus is centrally located along the Buda side of the river Danube. The main research focus of the Department is particle and nuclear physics, astro-particle physics and astrophysics. Our University is a member of several large international collaborations, including CMS, LIGO, LSST, NUSTAR, Pan-STARRS, PHENIX and STAR.
The main focus of the current experimental high-energy physics group is searches for phenomena Beyond the Standard Model, measurements related to the Standard Model electroweak and QCD sectors, as well as Heavy Ion physics in the CMS experiment. Technical responsibilities are related to the high-level trigger, the BRIL beam background and luminosity detectors and the Zero Degree Calorimeter, with participation in the Phase-2 CMS upgrade.
The candidate is expected to either join one of the current research projects in a leading role or start a new topic that fits the interest of the CMS group. We are thus looking for candidates with a PhD degree (or a recently submitted PhD thesis) and with an excellent record in research. For interested candidates, teaching opportunities include laboratories and lectures to master students – the MSc and PhD programs at the Institute are entirely in English, with many international students.
The candidate will be employed by Eötvös Loránd University, with a competitive annual gross salary. The conditions of employment (office space and research infrastructure) are excellent and include travel funds.
The position is already available, the start date is negotiable.
All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply via https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/15720. A curriculum vitae including important conference presentations and research grants, a list of selected publications along with a public link to the full list, a short description of your research interest and plans need to be submitted. At least three letters of reference should be arranged by the candidate to be reveiced by the deadline. Full consideration will be given to candidates whose application is received by 20 January, 2020. Further information on this position can be obtained from Gabriella.Pasztor@ttk.elte.hu and veresgabor@caesar.elte.hu .
Women and members of minority groups underrepresented in the academic sector are especially encouraged to apply.
